This term at Mansfield, we have been including a range of activities to incorporate Indigenous awareness and education into the service.
The students have been expanding their knowledge of the cultures within their community and this has been achieved through several craft activities. Our most recent craft activity, stick painting, required students to collect sticks from around the school and bring them to the service to decorate using paint. The children were educated how Indigenous Australians would use sticks, known as clappers, to create music within their communities. The students used their previous knowledge of Aboriginal dot painting to decorate their sticks using dots and lines. The outcome of this activity encouraged and provided students with an insight into the range of resources that we are able to use from our surroundings to create music/craft. The students are continuously being provided with the knowledge required to understand and appreciate the history of Australia.
