It’s amazing how from little things, big things grow! Some of our Senior students at our Nundah OSHC service were rummaging through the store room resources and came across a box of pirate tattoos and eye patches.
The children spoke to Miss Cherise, the Coordinator, about ideas that they could use this resource in our program. Miss Cherise explained to the children about an upcoming fundraising cause in September which involved dressing up as a pirate to support families of children with cancer. The children were excited about this idea, collaborated and worked together to come up with a plan to organise this event, not only to raise awareness but also set themselves a goal to raise $150 to donate to the Childhood Cancer Foundation.
The children filled 99 party bags with donated lollies, stickers and lots more to sell on the day, and set up a fundraising page. How excited and proud were they, when the donations on their page started to come in from loving families of School Plus Nundah! The event raised $428.46. What an amazing experience for the children to be involved in and learn about supporting their community and giving to others, but most importantly all child driven! “We are now turning our thoughts to the next term and the following year. You will have to wait and see what the children have in store and of we will definitely keep you all posted!” Miss Cherise expressed.
